4 a
September 1997 Monthly Report
Page 5
quantity targeted for treatment (ie. 1000-1100 G. P.M. ) . The
treated flows for September ranged from 896 G.P.M. to 1077
G. P.M. .
Attached are results from flow and quality monitoring of;
Cement Creek diverted for treatment (CC-1B) ; American Tunnel
flow before treatment (AT-INFEL) ; dissolved metals analysis of
the AT-004 discharge; and Cement Creek below the AT-004
discharge point (CC-20) for August samples. The September
results were not received by the date of this report and will
be submitted with the October report.
A picture of the Cement Creek diversion is attached.
Mainstem Stream Monitoring and Reference Point Stream
Monitoring
Sunnyside sampled the reference point (A-72) on September 10,
1997 . These results and the results for the August 13 , 1997
samples from A-72 and the other three USGS gaging stations
(A-68 , C-48 , and M-34) are attached.
The provisional flow from the outside gage at A-72 for the
August 13, 1997 sample was 346 cfs (previously reported as 101
cfs) , which is in the high flow category (Q> 300 cfs) and for
September 10, 1997 was 163 cfs which is in the intermediate
flow category (100 < Q < 300 cfs) .
The reported zinc values which are an average of the result
from two labs are August 13, 1997 - 283 ug/1 and September 10,
1997 - 330 ug/l.
The index numbers for the August and September samples are
calculated as follows:
August September
Xi = 283 Xi = 330
Xf = 306 Xf = 399
Sf = 104 Sf = 144
Ni=(Xi-Xf)/Sf Ni=(Xi-Xf)/Sf
Ni=(283-306)/104 Ni=(330-399)/144
Ni= -0. 22 Ni= -0. 48
The index number graph and updated reporting table are attached.
Evaluation of the normalized data:
The index values of -0.22 and -0. 48 for August and September
respectively indicate that water quality at the reference
point was somewhat better than the reference data set for the
respective flow classes. Additional evaluation or monitoring
is not planned since the index numbers for August and
September compare favorably with the data set.
