e
January 1998 Monthly Report
Page 2
"B List" Projects
- Columbus Mine Portals -Mine Waste Dumps
- London Mine Portals - Waste Dumps
Work, permitting or arrangement for access is not planned until it
becomes evident that the work plans for these projects require
implementation.
- Cement Creek Diversion and Water Treatment
Cement Creek diversion and water treatment was active
continuously throughout January. The entire flow of Cement
Creek was diverted for treatment. The flows in January ranged
from 250 G.P.M. to 375 G.P.M.
Attached are December 1997, and January 1998 monitoring
results for; dissolved metals in the AT-004 discharge; Cement
Creek diverted for treatment (CC-1B) ; American Tunnel flow
before treatment (AT-INFEL) ; and Cement Creek below the AT-004
discharge point (CC-20) .
- Mainstem Stream Monitoring and Reference Point Stream
Monitoring
Sunnyside sampled the reference point (A-72) on January 7,
1998 . These results are attached.
The Bureau of Reclamation sampled the other three mainstream
gaging stations (A-68, M-34 and C-48) in January according to
the alternating month schedule that is currently being
followed. Sunnyside will sample these sites in February.
The stream channel at A-72 was ice choked to the point that
gage readings were useless. Sunnyside has estimated the flow
to be less than 100 cfs and will update this estimate when the
USGS completes their flow records for this site.
The provisional flow being less than 100 cfs places this
sample result in the low flow category (Q< 100 cfs) . The
reported dissolved zinc value which is an average of the
results from two labs was 586 ug/l.
The index number for the January sample is calculated as follows:
Xi = 586
Xf = 519
Sf = 124
Ni=(Xi-Xf)/Sf
Ni=(586-519)/124
Ni= +0.54
