Peabody Sage Creek Mine - Drainage and Sediment Control Plan
based on manufacturer's published data. PSCM also selected 8.0 feet per second as the
limiting velocity value.
Channel capacity was analyzed using the vegetated channel sub - routine. The channel
roughness coefficient is automatically calculated by the model. The limiting velocity values
were hand entered (manufacturer's published limiting velocity values for select TRM
products are summarized in Table 2.05.3 -E2 -9 below. The designs assume a mixed grass
community 11 -24" tall, which corresponds to a "B" Retardance class, and results in a higher
surface water elevation.
The postmine channels at PSCM lined with TRM will be either three (3) or ten (10) feet
wide. TRM installation will be in accordance with recommendations developed by the
Erosion Control Technical Council (ECTC, 2006) or the individual manufacturer's
recommendations.
TABLE 2.05.3 -E2 -9
TRM Performance Guide 1, 2
Permissible Velocity
Permissible Shear Stress
Product
Manufacturer
Manning's
f s
(lbs /ft2)
Bare Soil
Vegetated
Bare Soil
Vegetated
"n"
P300
North American Green
0.034
9.0
16.0
3.0
8.0
SC250
North American Green
0.040
9.5
15.0
3.0
10.0
C350
North American Green
0.041
10.5
20.0
3.2
12.0
P550
North American Green
0.041
12.5
25.0
4.0
14.0
GFP -12
Greenfix America
0.024
12.0
4.5
CPG
Greenfix America
0.024
20.0
10.0
3000
Enkamat
Colbond Geosynthetics
0.030
20.0
19.0
6.7
8.0
7010
Enkamat
Colbond Geosynthetics
0.030
20.0
19.0
11.2
9.0
7018
Enkamat
Colbond Geosynthetics
0.030
13.0
19.0
11.2
10.0
7020
Notes: 1) This is a select list of products, SCCC may use another equivalent product if the performance
criteria meets the minimum standards.
2) The manufacturer's product - specific performance properties are documented in Attachment 2.05.3 -
E2.G-3.
3) Mannin 's n values are based on bare soil conditions with flow depth of 0.5 feet.
General installation steps are:
1. Prepare a stable and firm soil surface free of large rocks and other obstructions. Apply
appropriate seed mixture.
2. Install TRM after application of seed, mulches (if applicable) and other soil
amendments, unless soil in- filling is required. If soil in- filling is needed, install TRM,
apply seed and other amendments and brush or rake topsoil into TRM matrix.
3. Anchor top of blanket at end of channel section using trench and /or /staples /stakes.
4. Unroll center blanket in direction of water flow on bottom of channel. Securely fasten
blanket to soil surface with staples /stakes in accordance with manufacturer's staple
pattern guide. If available, use colored dot pattern corresponding to the manufacturer's
recommended staple pattern. If applicable, overlap adjacent blankets and staple.
TR -O 2.05.3 -E2.20 Revised 04/12
