Weather was clear and warm. <br />Bear Coal Company is not renewing their coal permit, C- 1981 -033. The permit will expire on <br />July 19, 2012. DRMS will be pursuing bond forfeiture following the permit expiration. Bear <br />Colorado Discharge Permit Number C00044377 was officially terminated on June 27, 2012. <br />With the termination of the discharge permit, Bear is authorized to remove the sediment and <br />treatment ponds at the mine site. DRMS has requested that Bear remove the ponds prior to the <br />DRMS permit expiration. At the same time, DRMS has requested that Bear repair the bridge <br />crossing the North Fork of the Gunnison River. During this inspection, a number of tamarisk <br />and other noxious weeds were observed. DRMS further requests that tamarisk be removed and <br />the stumps treated and that other noxious weeds as discussed below be chemically treated. <br />BACKFILL and GRADING — Rule 4.14 <br />Contemporaneous Reclamation 4.14.1; Approximate Original Contour 4.14.2; Highwall <br />Elimination 4.14.1(2)(f); Steep Slopes 4.14.2, 4.27; Handling of Acid and Toxic Materials <br />4.14.3; Stabilization of Rills and Gullies 4.14.6: <br />I talked to Bill Bear about backfilling the ponds since the NPDES permit has been <br />terminated.
