May 1997 Monthly Report
Page 3
- London Mine Portals - Waste Dumps
This is a "B List" project. Therefore, no work, permitting or
arrangement for access is planned until it becomes evident
that the work plan for this project requires implementation.
- Pride of the West Tailings
Preliminary work was started on this site by the end of May.
Site work included installation of initial sediment control.
Mobilization for tailings excavation is scheduled for the
first week of June.
- Sunnyside Mine Pool Mitigation - Alkaline Solution Injection
During the month of May, this project was inactive with no
alkaline material or water being injected.
The water pool pH at the American Tunnel bulkhead on May 23,
1997 was 3 .72 and the bulkhead pressure was 272 psi. Sunnyside
will continue to monitor these parameters.
- Cement Creek Diversion and Water Treatment
Cement Creek diversion and water treatment was active
continuously throughout May. On May 5, 1997, Cement Creek
flows started exceeding planned treatment flows on a
continuous basis. Controlled flows from Cement Creek were
then diverted and treated along with the portal flow from the
American Tunnel. During May, flows diverted for treatment
ranged from 1077 GPM to 1166 GPM.
Attached are results from flow and quality monitoring of;
Cement Creek diverted for treatment (CC-1B) ; American Tunnel
flow before treatment (AT-INFEL) ; dissolved metals analysis of
the AT-004 discharge; and Cement Creek below the AT-004
discharge point (CC-20) .
- Mainstem Stream Monitoring and Reference Point Stream
Monitoring
Sunnyside sampled the reference point (A-72) on May 6, 1997.
These results are on the attached summary sheet.
The provisional flow from the outside gage at A-72 for the May
6, 1997 sample was 338 cfs which is in the high flow category
(Q > 300 cfs) .
