March, 1997 Monthly/1st Quarter Report
Page 5
Evaluation of the normalized data:
The index value of 1 .90 for March indicates this result was
significantly higher than the mean value for the reference data for
the low flow class. Since this result is less than +2 it does not
require further evaluation or additional sampling. Based on Bureau
of Reclamation sample results for March 51 19970, dissolved zinc
concentrations at A-68 was 1300 ug/l, M-34 was 640 ug/l and C-48
was 880 ug/l . These results would indicate that all three sub-
basins were carrying elevated zinc concentrations on March 5, 1997.
It appears that zinc concentrations in these sub-basins were
elevated (based on Sunnyside's data from August 1996 - February
1997) by the following percentages; Cement Creek 20%, Mineral Creek
50% and Upper Animas 100%.
Please contact me if you have any questions on this report.
I certify under penalty of law
that I have personally examined Sincerely,
and am familiar with the information
submitted herein: and based on my
inquiry of those individuals
immediately responsible for Larry Perino
obtaining the information, I Reclamation Manager
believe the submitted information
if true, accurate and complete.
I am aware that there are significant
penalties for submitting false
information, including the possibility
of fine and imprisonment. See 15 U.S.C.
Section 1001 and 33 U.S.C. Section 1319
cc: EPA - Melanie Pallman
Technical Enforcement Program 8ENS-T
DMG - Wally Erickson
Allen Sorenson
