February 1997 Monthly Report
Page 3
- Longfellow - Koehler Cont
Test results were received on the red precipitate layer found
in the pond and under the Koehler dump. It appears that this
material has the potential to release zinc to water when
exposed and lower pH. This layer may be pre-mining or at
least a pre-Koehler dump deposit based on the dump materials
position over the layer with no intermixing.
After receipt of the results, it was determined that this
layer should be removed. Excavation and stockpiling for
haulage was started in February.
The time extension request submitted in January for the
Section 404 Permit held for this project was granted and
received from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in February.
No samples were taken in February.
- London Mine Portals - Waste Dumps
This is a "B List" project. Therefore, no work, permitting or
arrangement for access is planned until it becomes evident
that the work plan for this project requires implementation.
- Pride of the West Tailings
Status of this site has not changed from the December monthly
report although all information has been submitted to DMG for
approval to place the historic tailings into the permitted
onsite tailings pond.
- Sunnyside Mine Pool Mitigation - Alkaline Solution Injection
During the month of February, this project was inactive with
no alkaline material or water being injected.
The water pool pH at the American Tunnel bulkhead on February
14, 1997 was 4 .76 and the bulkhead pressure was 245 psi.
Sunnyside will continue to monitor these parameters through
the winter.
- Cement Creek Diversion and Water Treatment
Cement Creek diversion and water treatment was active
continuously through January. The entire flow of Cement Creek
was diverted and treated along with the portal flow from the
American Tunnel.
