December 1996 Monthly/4th Quarter Report
Page 3
Pride of the West Tailings
Status of this site has not changed from the November monthly
report.
A County Land Use Permit has been granted to implement this
project and a Section 404 Permit has been applied for.
Although an access agreement has been obtained for the land
containing the bulk of the project, DMG approval has not been
obtained by the owner/operator of the site. Their approval is
contingent on receipt of acceptable test results on tailings
pond permeability where the historic tailings are to be placed
onsite. The test work has been done but due to disagreements
between sellers, owners and operator, the report has not been
completed or submitted to DMG for consolidation site approval.
Sunnyside will continue to request that this submittal be
completed so the project can proceed as planned during the
1997 construction season.
Bordering landowners have not answered Sunnyside's request for
access grants to remove tailings that have migrated onto their
property from the project area. Since this is such a minor
portion of the project, Sunnyside will proceed with the main
project area whether these bordering areas can be accessed or
not pending receipt from DMG of consolidation site approval.
- Sunnyside Mine Pool Mitigation - Alkaline Solution Injection
During the month of December, this project was inactive with
no alkaline material or water being injected.
The water pool pH at the American Tunnel bulkhead on December
30, 1996 was 5.48 and the bulkhead pressure was 231 psi.
Sunnyside will continue to monitor these parameters through
the winter.
- Cement Creek Diversion and Water Treatment
Cement Creek diversion and water treatment was active
continuously through December. The entire flow of Cement
Creek was diverted and treated along with the portal flow
from the American Tunnel.
Attached are results from flow and quality monitoring of;
Cement Creek diverted for treatment (CC-1B) ; American Tunnel
flow before treatment (AT-INFEL) ; dissolved metals analysis of
the AT-004 discharge; and Cement Creek below the AT-004
discharge point (CC-20) .
