November 1996 Monthly Report
Page 3
- Pride of the West Tailings
Status of this site has not changed from the October monthly
report although an access agreement was signed by the
owners/operators of the land containing the bulk of the
material to be removed. In order to implement the project,
approval will be required from DMG for the consolidation site.
This approval is required because the primary choice for a
consolidation site is within the MLR permitted area for the
Howardsville Mill .
Access approvals have been requested from bordering landowners
where minor amounts of material is located. These approvals
have not been granted to-date.
- Sunnyside Mine Pool Mitigation - Alkaline Solution Injection
During the month of November, this project was inactive with
no alkaline material or water being injected.
The water pool pH at the American Tunnel was 4 .90 and the
bulkhead pressure was 219 psi on November 21, 1996. Sunnyside
will continue to monitor these parameters through the winter.
- Cement Creek Diversion and Water Treatment
Cement Creek diversion and water treatment was active
continuously through November. The entire flow of Cement
Creek was diverted and treated along with the portal flow
from the American Tunnel . The heated intake structure appears
to have solved the problem of intake icing as the intake
operated without problems in November.
Attached are results from flow and quality monitoring of;
Cement Creek diverted for treatment (CC-1B) ; American Tunnel
flow before treatment (AT-INFEL) ; dissolved metals analysis of
the AT-004 discharge; and Cement Creek below the AT-004
discharge point (CC-20) .
Mainstem Stream Monitoring and Reference Point Stream
Monitoring
Sunnyside sampled the mainstem stations on November 7, 1996
for the Bureau of Reclamation in addition to the reference
point (A-72) sample. Results were not received in time for
this report and will be included in the December report.
