July 1996 Monthly Report
Page 4
Pride of the West Tailings
No progress has been made towards permitting or gaining access
approvals to implement the work plan at this site.
Sunnyside Mine Pool Mitigation - Alkaline Solution Injection
Implementation of this project was started on July 18, 1996
with equipment testing taking place on July 17, 1996. Through
the end of the month the following approximate quantities of
water and lime were pumped through the bulkhead.
Water - 11 .95 million gallons
Dissolved Hydrated Lime - 87 . 2 tons
Total Hydrated Lime - 197 . 5 tons
During this same time period, a total of 11. 53 million gallons
was released at the American Tunnel bulkhead to evaluate the
transport and mixing of the alkaline material within the mine.
Cement Creek Diversion and Water Treatment
This project was operational at month end but actual water
treatment of Cement Creek water did not start by month's end.
The American Tunnel bulkhead valve was temporarily closed on
July 29 , 1996 in a valve closing ceremony but was later
reopened to allow the evaluation of the alkaline injection
project to proceed.
Mainstem Stream Monitoring and Reference Point Stream
Monitoring
The reference point sample A-72 was taken on July 16, 1996.
Mainstream samples at the other three gaging stations were
taken by the Bureau of Reclamation.
Based on provisional flow measurements, the flow at the
reference point A-72 during the July 16, 1996 sampling session
was 120 cfs. This will put the result in the intermediate
flow category (100 cfs < Q < 300cfs) . The reported dissolved
zinc value was 330 ug/l .
