June 6, 2012 C-1981-016/Hawk Nest E & W JRS

RECLAMATION SUCCESS (cont.): - Production data was based on the dry weight of all live grasses and forbs
(2012 growth only) clipped from either a 0.25 or 0.5 square meter quadrat that was placed to the right of each

degrees for approximately 1 week. Samples were then weighed on an analytical balance and a pounds/acre
production amount was calculated.
- Based on the sampling, the east mine had a live vegetative cover value of 24.3% and a hydrologic cover value of
79.4% (hydrologic cover includes live cover, litter and rocks). The east mine had an average productivity rate of
586 pounds/acre. The three dominant species at the east mine were western wheatgrass, intermediate wheatgrass
and slender wheatgrass, with relative cover percentages of 10.6%, 3.1% and 2.9%, respectively. The percentage
of relative cover from noxious weeds at the east mine was 2.0%. The cover at the east mine was sufficient to
stabilize the surface and no erosional problems were noted.
- Based on the sampling, the west mine had a live vegetative cover value of 28.1% and a hydrologic cover value of
85.6% (hydrologic cover includes live cover, litter and rocks). The west mine had an average productivity rate of
519 pounds/acre. The three dominant species at the west mine were crested wheatgrass, yellow sweet clover and
western wheatgrass, with relative cover percentages of 16.0%, 5.3% and 5.1%, respectively. The percentage of
relative cover from noxious weeds at the west mine was 2.8%. The cover at the west mine was sufficient to
stabilize the surface and no erosional problems were noted.
- Based on the sampling, the bleeder entry area had a live vegetative cover value of 24.0% and a hydrologic cover
value of 79.5% (hydrologic cover includes live cover, litter and rocks). The bleeder entry area had an average
productivity rate of 192 pounds/acre. The three dominant species at the bleeder entry area were smooth brome,
western wheatgrass and intermediate wheatgrass, with relative cover percentages of 17.5%, 2.0% and 2.0%,
respectively. The percentage of relative cover from noxious weeds at the bleeder entry area was 3.0%. The cover
at the bleeder entries area was sufficient to stabilize the surface and no erosional problems were noted.
- Ba
had an average productivity rate of 528 pound
crested wheatgrass, western wheatgrass and yellow sweet clover, with relative cover percentages of 7.9%, 7.4%
and 2.7%, respectively.
