• 2.05.6(6)
some perched water systems, the consequences of mining on the
hydrologic balance, existing water resources, and water rights will
be minimal and probably non - existent.
Roads: Several jeep roads pass over the area to be mined in the
No. 3 Mine. These roads are only used occasionally by the land
owners, deer hunters or local four wheel drive enthusiasts.
Subsidence may cause cracks to form in the roads. The cracks may
heal naturally or they may need to be filled in with the use of a
small dozer or backhoe.
Coal Seams: The Bear No. 3 Mine operation involves recovery of
coal from the C and B- Seams. Two coal seams, the E and F -Seams are
present above the C -Seam. Because of the distance between the C-
Seam and the upper two seams, the Operator does not anticipate any
significant effect on the recovery of the coal resources above the
C -Seam.
The E and F -Seams range from 180 to 410 feet above the C -Seam. The
large parting should allow later extraction of the upper seams with
• only a slight increase in mining costs due to subsidence. A
massive sandstone structure located between the C -Seam and E -Seam
should contribute to a natural bridging or uniform areal type
subsidence between the seams.
New Mine Plan, B -Seam, West Area
The new mine plan proposed for the Bear No. 3 Mine should not
adversely effect the surface above or adjacent to the site beyond
any similar effects experienced in the previously mined areas on
the site. It should be possible to drive mains, sub -mains and
develop room - and - pillar panels, anywhere in the new mine plan area
without any noticeable surface subsidence. However, pillar
extraction during retreat from the mine panels will produce
sufficient tensile strain in the overburden for measurable surface
subsidence to occur.
Two site specific reports (Rocky Mountain Geotechnical, Inc. (RMG)
1986 and Geowest (GW) 1989 were previously prepared to review the
Bear No. 3 Mine plans. The RMG report reviewed the C -Seam Mine
Plan. Its main purpose was to evaluate the potential effect the C-
• Seam mining would have on landslides adjacent to the mine. The GW
2.05 -57 Rev. 11 -30 -93
