• 2.05.6(4) Protection of Public Parks and Historic Places <br />(a) No public parks are located within the permit area; therefore, <br />no public parks will be affected by the proposed mining operations. <br />(b) In 1985 the Operator requested a file search from the Colorado <br />Historical Society to determine if there are any documented <br />cultural or historic resources in the project area. The results of <br />the file search are presented in Exhibit 14, Tab 3. One (1) site <br />in section 17, 5GN1560 (the town of Somerset, CO), has been listed <br />as eligible on the National Register of Historic Places. Upon <br />consultation with the Colorado Historical Society, it was <br />determined that none of the buildings that existed previously at <br />the Bear No. 3 Mine facilities area are covered by this eligibility <br />status. No eligible sites were identified in section 18. <br />An archaeological survey was conducted by ARCO for the Mt. Gunnison <br />Mine. Two sites of historic non - aboriginal occupation were located <br />and identified by the designations 5GN036 and 5GN037 located in <br />section 16 and 21 respectively. Both of these sites are identified <br />in the Operator's 1985 file search. A copy of ARCO survey is <br />• presented in Exhibit 7. <br />2.05.6(5) Surface Mining Near Underground Mining <br />Not applicable. No surface mining will be conducted within the <br />permit area. <br />2.05.6(6) Subsidence Survey, Subsidence Monitoring and Subsidence <br />Control Plan <br />Existing Structures: See discussion at the end of this section. <br />Ground Water Hydrology: Section 2.04.7 presents the conclusion <br />that there are no continuous aquifers that exhibit any lateral or <br />vertical continuity above the coal seams to be mined. Water in the <br />coal and sandstones above the coal seams to be mined appear to <br />occur in localized perched systems. No water has been reported to <br />be encountered during exploratory drilling, and no significant <br />water has been encountered in either the old Edwards Mine workings <br />or the current Bear No. 3 Mine.
