June 25,2012 C-1982-057/Seneca II-W Mine SLB
The mud flow and slide at the pump house was stable and vegetated. The underdrain of the slide was dry.
The area around Pond 006,where several cracks had appeared between the facilities area and the pond was stable.
No new cracks or slumps were observed.
The Pond 016 slide area remediation is nearly complete. The lower ends of postmining channels PM-2, -2A, -213,
and 3 were all complete. It appeared that an equipment crossing had been constructed in PM-2,between Road J
and the junction of PM-2 and-2A,covering the rip rap. This portion of the channel will need to be repaired.
Otherwise, the newly constructed portions of the drainages were in excellent condition. It appeared that
construction of the ditch that runs at the base of the regraded road cut slope,on the north side of Road J over the
constructed underdrain, was not yet complete. It should be graded to ensure positive drainage and avoid ponding
in the area.
The pit ramp slide was also stable. Downdrains in the slide had been constructed, but not yet armored. The
channels are approximately 4' deep with vertical sides that are collapsing in places. The two channels will need
to be filled with rock to ensure that water will flow through the channels and prevent clogging with sloughing
sideslope material. Also,on the west end of the toe bulge, there is a low area where water will collect that should
be graded for positive drainage. It appears that about 20' of ditch will need to be cut to connect to the west
downdrain.
ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS/COMPLIANCE
No enforcement actions were initiated as a result of this inspection, nor are any pending.
PHOTOGRAPHS
Reduced slope north of Road J
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 15
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 4
Page 3 of 4
