XN ONNat TAL ME A WORK PLAN <br /> MID COINTDM4T RESOURCES COAL DAM PROPERTY <br /> 1.0 IlMODUCTION <br /> This Work Plan has been prepared at the request of Mid Continent Resources (MCR) for <br /> the conduct of an Envvirwmental Assessment of its Coal Basin property in Piddn County, <br /> Colorado, Coal Basin was an uadarground coal mine, owned and operated by MCR for 45 <br /> years, from 1956 until 1991, when the mine and associated ancillary surface facilities were shut <br /> down. Subsequent to shutting down the mine, an agreement has been reached between MCR <br /> and the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) <br /> whereby DMO is responsible for reclamation of the surface facilities,including the mine portals, <br /> coal handling and preparation plant, refuse piles, and associated yard and maintenance facilities. <br /> Under the terms of the agreement between MCR and the DMG, MCR has retained the <br /> responsibility Ibr addressing the environmental issues related to the site. <br /> This Work Plan is based on discussions with MCR, a preliminary review and evaluation <br /> of reports and documents provided by MCR, and discussions with representatives of DMG and <br /> the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, Water Quality Control Division, on <br /> February 8, 1996. The Plan; focuses on the identification and evaluation of existing <br /> environmental conditions and possible environmental liabilities, whether real or perceived, <br /> related to the Coal Basin Property and associated operations, with the view toward providing an <br /> Environmental Arnt. <br /> 1.1 Backar I <br /> The Coal Basin property is located approximately four miles west of the town of <br /> Redstone and includes a series of five mine pools at an elevation of 10,000 feet, and ancillary <br /> surface facilities located at 8,000 feet in the valley below ttm mines.
