Reply An agreement has been reached with MLRD that
will allow Mid-Continent to collect samples of each of
the major strata penetrated (mancos shale, sandstone,
etc. ) by the rock tunnel as the construction progresses
for the necessary analysis .
Include this explanation on page 36 of Section III-D.
6 . Comment The applicant must supply analyses of repre-
sentative sample of the roof, floor, any interburden
for each of the two seams mined. A representative
composite sample from all the mines in the Coal Basin
seam should be taken. These analyses are needed to
determine the potential effect of the refuse pile on
surface and ground water quality and to determine if
any potential plant toxicities exist. The list of
required parameters is attached.
Reply Analyses has been accomplished in accordance
with the recommended Baseline Overburden Chemical-
Mineral Analysis format. See lab analysis data at
Table III-D-3.

of the coal from each of the two seams to be mined. A
list of the required analyses is attached. This informa-
tion is needed to assess the potential impacts on
ground water quality once the mine workings are abandoned
and fill with water.
