O. Box 158, Carbondale, Colorado 81623
County: Pitkin
File No.: C-017-81
Date: April 21, 1982
Time:
1:30 P.M.
Weather:
Warm, clear
Operator Contact:
Doug Bowman
State Inspector: Dan Mathews
I. General Comments
This was a regular monthly inspection of the Coal Basin Mines. Spring runoff was in
progress, and all of the ephemeral drainages and haul road drainage ditches were flowing.
Most of the snow has melted in the prep plant area, and considerable cleanup and regrading
will be necessary as a result of accumulation of material during snow removal activities.
In one location along coal creek northwest of the thermal dryer, the berm was breached
during snow removal and a considerable volume of material , including coal fines, gravel;
and assorted debris was deposited adjacent to the stream. N.O.V. 82-26 has been issued
for failure to minimize disturbance to the hydrologic balance.
Jeff Zingo of O.S.M. was along on the inspection.
