Page 2
II. Compliance with Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act
The berm that controls drainage on the mine #1 bench must be repaired to control
erosion of the outslope.
The berm and ditch on the North side of the mine #3 bench must be repaired. The
ditch breached during recent rains and caused considerable erosion on the outslope of
the mine bench.
The embankment of the pond on the southeast corner of the refuse pile has been
backfilled to provide one foot of freeboard.
All other aspects of the sediment control and drainage system were in good working
order. The upper refuse pile pond was approximately 114 - 113 filled with sediment.
There were some small cracks observed at the mine #1 sediment pond. These should be of
little significance, but the pond should be regularly inspected to determine if a problem
may exist.
Most of the trash below the fan access road at mine #1 had been buried. The
remainder should be completed by September 30, 1981.
4.06 Topsoil
Soil was being stripped from the refuse pile area and respread on the refuse pile.
In addition, topsoil was being stripped at the rock tunnel waste rock disposal site
for additional disposal area. A large pocket of topsoil was uncovered in one area.
4.15 Revegetation
Revegetation success at the refuse pile, methane pipeline, rock dump pond, mine #1
pond, mine #5 pond, and portions of the refuse pile ponds is good to excellent.
Consistent rains have helped greatly to establish the vegetation.
Composted sewage sludge, and wood chips and sawdust was being delivered at the mine.
This material will be used as a "soil builder" to revegetate areas where topsoil is
not available for redistribution.
