Care of Trees:
a. Trees shall be protected at all times form drying, heating, smothering, freezing, crushing,
drowning, abrasion, rapid temperature fluctuations, or contact with injurious substances.
b. Shipping containers containing trees shall be opened only in full shade, and shall not be
exposed to direct sunlight. Shipping containers shall not be dropped or tossed.
Punctured or torn shipping containers shall be immediately sealed.
C. Trees shall not be removed from shipping containers until needed for planting.
d. Trees shall be planted without root or top pruning. If culling is necessary, or if mold, dry
roots, evidence of injury or dying is observed, the condition will be immediately brought
to the attention of the PROJECT MANAGER.
e. Trees in planting bags or trays shall have only their tops exposed.
f. Trees shall not be removed from planting bag or cell until immediately before planting.
They shall be gently removed one at a time to prevent injury, and quickly and gently
inserted into the planting hole.
g. Trees carried in planting bags or trays shall not exceed the amount that can be carried
and removed without injury, or which can be planted before critical heating or drying
occurs. Trees placed in bags or trays shall be planted out and not returned to storage.
Spacing, Spot Selection, and Planting Spot
1r1 % f, ,ram✓r ,
NOTE that planting on the reclaimed roads will be accomplished along the outside margin of the UR
roadways. At the reclaimed roads, each planting `Pod' (as defined below) will begin at the
outside margin of the road, and extend toward the inside of the reclaimed road for a distance of
forty feet (40'). Spacing between pods on the reclaimed roads will be no less than fifty feet
(50'), edge to edge.
a. Trees are to be planted in pods, or groups, of thirty (30) trees per pod. The trees within a
pod are to be planted on an eight foot (8') spacing. Five (5) pods will be planted per acre.
Pods must be spaced no closer than thirty five feet (35') from each other, edge to edge.
b. Trees shall be in pods distributed over the Project Area, and planted on the spacing
described above, provided that for individual trees the spacing may be varied as much as _
fifty percent (50%) in any direction in order to attain the best plantable spot. Spacing control
shall be resumed using the original guides, and the number of trees per acre shall not be
materially increased or decreased by the method of selecting planting spots. No tree shall
be planted closer than fifty percent (50%) of the spacing requirement to another planted
tree.
c. Whenever possible, planting spots shall be selected where stationary protection, such as
stumps, logs and terrain breaks, are located on the south to west side of the tree. Where
stationary material is not available within the spacing allocation, planter shall protect the
trees by placing the largest transportable woody or inert material over three inches (3") in
7 n
