Revised Task 9 - Road Rehabilitation
Specifically included within Task 1 is the Contractor's responsibility to rehabilitate the
previously reclaimed roads that will be used to access the mine bench outslopes. Portions
of Roads B, D, E and F will be traversed to access the work sites. Each of these roads
has been previously reclaimed. Access to the work areas will be restricted to a maximum
eight feet (8') wide two wheel track that Contractor will establish at each road. All traffic
must be restricted to the two wheel track. It is estimated that up to ten (10) acres of
previously reclaimed roadway may require rehabilitation.
Project Manager will require that any and all previously reclaimed road surfaces
compacted by reclamation access activities as a result of this Project will be subject to the
requirements of this revised task.
Following completion of all work tasks requiring motorized access across a road,
Contractor will accomplish road reclamation rehabilitation. Rehabilitation will be
accomplished by dozer ripping the access track and any other disturbances as directed by
Project Manager, and reconstruction of all low water crossings and water bars located on
the road as directed by Project Manager. Ripping will occur so that dozer rippers, spaced
no further apart than two feet (2') are sunk ten inches (10") into the ground. The areas
will be ripped in a discontinuous manner so that compacted areas are heavily scarified.
Low water crossings and water bars will be re-constructed to their pre-project
dimensions.
Following ripping and water bar/low water crossing reconstruction, the areas affected by
these activities will be revegetated. It is estimated that approximately ten (10) acres will
be dozer scarified and revegetated as part of the road rehabilitation Task. Contractor will
supply all materials (excepting seed), labor and equipment necessary and incidental to
completing this Task.
Revegetation will occur in the following manner:
Seed
The Owner will provide seed. Contractor must give the Project Manager at least fifteen
(15) working days notice of the acreage to be seeded, so that the proper amount of seed is
delivered. Hand written acreage calculations are acceptable. All areas will be seeded
with the "Coal Basin Mine Site Seed Mixture", (Table 2). It is anticipated that the seed
will be broadcast applied to the road surfaces at the rate specified in Table 2.
Fertilizer
Commercial fertilizer is required for this Task, and will be supplied by Contractor. It is
anticipated that the fertilizer will be broadcast applied to the road surfaces.
Mulch
Mulching is required for this project. Mulch will be provided by Contractor, and must
conform to Section 20.2 of the General Specifications. All mulch must be certified as
