SHELTON, Director
Richard D.Lamm
Governor
0
DATE: January 26, 1984
T0: Jim Herron
FROM: Jim Pendleton
RE: "Reclama n of H Roads and Mine Benches
Coal Ba in Redstone, Colorado
Phase I: Documentation of Roads and Benches
for Mid-Continent Resources, Inc. "
Pursuant to your request, I have reviewed the report referenced above. This
report, prepared by Geo-Hydro Consulting, Inc. for Mid-Continent Resources,
partially satisfies Stipulations No. 22 and No. 26 placed upon permit No.
C-017-81 . Those two stipulations directed Mid-Continent Resources to analyze
the stability of roads and mine benches at the five Coal Basin mines, for the
ultimate purpose of developing reclamation procedures for those facilities .
The company has proposed to complete this task in three separate phases .
Phase I includes an inventory of the existing geotechnical situation. Phase
II constitutes the design of reclamation procedures, including the
construction of test sections at representative locations throughout the mine
site, in order to verify the proposed reclamation techniques. The final Phase
III comprises the completion of the actual reclamation program.
The majority of the road and mine bench reclamation is proposed to occur upon
completion of the rock tunnel now under construction at the Coal Basin mines .
Upon completion of this underground facility, the intense haulage of coal
along surface roads will be greatly curtailed, allowing early reclamation of a
large portion of the existing roads. The operator's tentative schedule of
activities calls for completion of Phase I during 1983, the performance of
Phase II during 1984, and the completion of the majority of the Phase III
reclamation between 1985 and 1987.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
