the preparations plant control room.
The main instruments and control panel will be
located adjacent to the clarifier and media
filters.
System Back-up Features
In the event of a preparation plant shutdown,
the treatment process is designed to operate
independently.
The 55-foot diameter thickener will provide a
surge for accumulation of solids over a period
of several days, allowing for storage during
times when the preparations plant is idled.
A valve box situated at the tunnel portal yard
allows re-routing of flows from the mine to the
pond series at 016.
In the event that discharges from the mixed-
media filters are in excess of allowable
limits, the pumps to the mixed media filters
can be deactivated. In that case, overflow
from the surge tank would go into the overflow
line, which would automatically route the water
to the 001 four-pond series. This allows a
short-term back-up treatment system which can
be used as necessary to correct minor (those
which can be quickly remedied) malfunctions in
the plant, and/or while mine discharge flows
are diverted to the 016 pond series.
Mid-Continent is purchasing a hand-held
turbidimeter which will allow us to check the
suspended solids at various points in the
system. This will allow us greater capability
to monitor the performance of the various
elements of the system, and the turbidity of
the water coming in to the plant, as well as
the TSS of the plant discharge water.
Personnel/ QMrator(s)
Preparation plant personnel are responsible for operation of the
water treatment system.
In addition, security personnel will be employed during weekends
and holidays to monitor for signs of trouble.
5
