All of the topsoil from the new expansion area has now been removed and
either placed on the outslopes of the pile or placed in one of the topsoil
stockpiles. Both topsoil stockpiles have been graded and have had drainage
containment structures built around them Seeding of these piles is
scheduled for the second week in October along with the seeding of the
outslopes of the pile.
The rock underdrain has been completed to the northern end of the refuse
pile area. A walk around of the entire pile indicated that all diversion
ditches and ponds are in good working order.
The entire refuse pile area appears to be structurally sound. There was no
ponding of water anywhere on the pile, No evidence of sloughing or settling
was observed,
Rock Tunnel Waste Disposal Facility
At the time of inspection, the Rock Tunnel Waste Pile was being utilized
only for the placement of cleanings from the lower ponds. A flat area was
prepared on top of the pile in order to place these pond cleanings. No berms
or incised pats were constructed to accept the pond cleanings. This
practice prevented any possible ponding of water on top of the pile.
The trash pile located due east of the tunnel waste pile was receiving
waste material from the mine. This material is periodically pushed with a
dozer and co^ipacted
All diversion ditches and ponds were examined and found to be in good
working order
No evidence of structural instability was observed anywhere on the pile.
Old Refuse Pile
At the time of inspection topsoil was being trucked to the top of the pile
Topsoil had been spread over one and one half acres of the upper portion of
the pile, Rills and gullies were being smoothed out by a dozer prior to the
placement of the topsoil.
A walkaround of the pile area indicated that all diversion ditches and
ponds were in proper operating order. No evidence of ponding was observed
on the pile.
Structurally, the pile appeared to be in sound shape. No tension cracks or
evidence of sloughing was observed anywhere on the pile. Rills and gullies
