F.,ci`
Dear Stan;
In a recent dispute over how the Coal Basin, located west of Redstone, is to be
reclaimed following the 1992 shutdown of coal mining operations there, the
Office of Surface Mining ordered historic railroad bridge abutments to be
destroyed.
While we believe this issue has been resolved in favor of leaving this historic
evidence of the John C. Osgood coal mining in the 1890's and early 1900, we
want to be certain none of the Osgood history is destroyed during the
reclamation.
The Redstone Historic Preservation Commisison has passed a resolution asking
that all the Osgood structures be cataloged and preserved. HPC will work with
the Colorado Historical Society to make certain this is done.
Please put this letter in the proper hands andlet us know what we may do to help.
Sincerely,
Marie Willey, President
March 24, 1994
cc: Colorado Mined Land Reclamation
Office of Surface Mining
U.S. Forest Service
0088 Redstone Boulevard Redstone.Colorado 816M
TOTAL P.01
