You advised you are notifying the
U. S. Forest Service and Division of Minerals and Geology of
Colorado in case they wish to attend.
A brief summary of matters that I believe should be
covered is as follows:
1.0 Current situation with reference to Mid-Continent
Resources bankruptcy,
On April 11, 1994 a Plan was approved in the United
States Bankruptcy Court at Denver providing for the completion of
liquidation of the MCR assets, including sale of the Coal Basin
real estate.
Under the Plan, allocation of approximately 70t of the
net assets (up to $3,000,000 less certain credits) is allocated to
reclamation and environmental matters, primarily in Coal Basin in
western Pitkin County. Reclamation has been proceeding and will
proceed according to the previously approved Reclamation Plan.
A substantial part of the Coal Basin reclamation was
performed during the working season of 1993. As soon as weather
permits, the program will be resumed. The removal of structures by
Machinery & Equipment Company/A. M. King, salvage contractors, will
continue.
The reclamation program carried on during the summer of
1993 by MCR through contractors will be continued during the 1994
campaign under negotiated contractual arrangements between the DMG
