The Sutey Pile Ditch seeding rate is extremely high. I would
recommend reducing the "large seed" portion of the mix
(orchardgrass and smooth brome) by a factor of 5, and the "small
seed" portion (timothy) by a factor of 10. This would result in a
seeding rate of 10 lbs/ac, and 128 seeds per square foot. Note
that the seedrate recommendation assumes broadcast seeding.
Sutey Ditch Seedmix Recommendation
Species Broadcast Rate
PLS lb/ac
Orchardgrass 4.0
Smooth Brome 4.0
Timothy _ 2 .0
For the Mine 3 , Mine 4, and old refuse pile (Mine Site Seedmix) , I
would recommend a 50% reduction in seeding rate for small seeded
species (asterisked) and a 25% reduction in seeding rate for large
seeded species. This would result in a drill seed rate of around
6.4 lb/ac, and approximately 60 seeds/sq.ft.
Minesite Seedmix Recommendation
Species Drill Rate Broadcast Rate
PLS lb/ac PLS lb/ac
*Kentucky bluegrass . 125 .25
*Alpine bluegrass .125 . 25
Slender wheatgrass 1.5 3 .0
Mountain brome 1.5 3 .0
Sheep fescue .75 1.5
*Tufted hairgrass .10 . 20
*Timothy .125 . 25
Orchardgrass . 38 .76
White clover . 38 .76
Cicer milkvetch . 38 .76
Lewis flax . 38 .76
*Western Yarrow .05 .10
Rky Mt penstemon . 19 . 38
Snowberry . 19 . 38
Woods rose . 19 . 38
Totals 6.37 12.74
I do not recommend revision of the mulch rate for the shaley flat
bench areas at Mine 3 and Mine 4, as suggested by Savage and
Savage.
