JUN 24 '96 03:41PM DIV/MINERALS&GEOLOGY P.4i10
` HARLAN &ASSOCIATES, INC.
CONSULTING HYDROGEMQG/STS AND ENGINEERS
3900 South Wadsworth Boulevard,Suite 155
Lakewood,Colorado 80235-2205
(303)988-7270 • Fax(303)989-8158
MEMORANbUM
Via Fax and U.S. MWI
Date: June 13, 1996
To: Robert Delaney, Delaney &Balcomb
Diane Delaney, Mid-Continent Resources
Fm: Dick- Harlan, Harlan & Associates-
Re: Mid--Con dnent Resources Limestone Quarry at Glenwood Springs
Analytical Results
This memorandum transmits the quality assurance/quality control(QA/QC)data and analytical results
for the splits of the three soil samples'collected by Mr Alan Kraus (Bureau of Land Management)
on May 2, 1996, at Mid-Continent Resources' Glenwood Springs limestone quarry. The splits of
the BLM samples were analyzed for polychlorinated biphanyls(PCBs)by Evergreen Analytical, Inc.,
an independent laboratory in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, using EPA Method $080.
You will note that the analytical results for all Aroclors in all three of the samples were below the
laboratory analytical detection limits or EPA's Contract Laboratory Program (CLP) Practical
Quantitation Limit (PQL). These results are not consistent with those referenced by the EPA
previously. In- my previous discussions with Mr. Fred Burnside, who is with. EPA's Criminal
Investigations Bureau in Denver, he,indicated that he has not reviewed either BLM's analytical
results or the associated QA/QC data, but only a one-page summary. At the direction of Mr. Fred
Burnside with EPA, I have contacted Mr. Alan Kraus with BLM to obtain a copy of BLM's
analytical results and QA/QC data for its spilt of the samples. I have been advised by Mr. Kraus
as recently as this morning that he cannot release BLM's results to either Mid-Continue resources
or to myself.
If you have questions on the above or if I can provide any additional information, please feel free
to call me.
Sample Designations:
#1A Sample collected by BLM from area of 'yellow staining'
#1B Sample collected by BLM-from area of "red staining"
#1 C Composite of samples collected by BLM from three areas with "dark'staining'
