This equates to
approximately 51 acres. Pre-existing road culverts were removed,
and the roads were graded to fill the inside ditch and achieve a
positive gradient to the outside. The roads were ripped to an
eighteen inch depth, then fertilized, seeded and mulched.
Approximate cost was $92 ,000. Contractor: Dirt-N-Iron, Loma,
Colorado.
Rock Tunnel Project: Concrete foundations were demolished and
buried against the highwall remnant. A forty eight inch pipe was
installed in each entry. The pipes were buried under the highwall
backfill , and are anchored at their terminus by a concrete wall.
The entry is secured by a locking steel grate. The entire area was
ripped, a portion was topsoiled and approximately seven acres
fertilized, seeded and mulched. Approximate cost was $75,000.
Contractor: ERM Enviroclean, Denver, Colorado.
Waste Rock Dump: The Rock Tunnel Dump was graded to achieve the
desired contour. Topsoil was excavated from the outside of a
nearby road and applied at a minimum thickness of twelve inches.
Drainage swales were established on the north and south sides of
the approximately eleven acre dump. The dump and borrow areas were
fertilized, seeded and mulched. Approximate cost was $85,000 .
Contractor: Wagner Construction, Craig, Colorado.
Mines 1 and 2: Concrete foundations and buildings were
demolished and removed to the highwall remnants. Seven underground
entries were backfilled, as were the highwall remnants at both mine
areas. Fan entries and associated roads were reclaimed.
