August 1994 -1- 933-2713.003
1.0 INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE
Simon Hydro-Search prepared reports in 1992 and 1993 which indicated that plugging of the
American Tunnel might result in increased groundwater flow from the mine workings towards
the Cement Creek drainage near the Sunnyside Gold property. Sunnyside Gold Corporation
subsequently initiated plugging activities. Therefore, it is prudent to characterize conjunctive
flow in Cement Creek near the point at which it exits the Sunnyside property. Conjunctive flow
is the sum of the groundwater and surface water flow at that point.
This report describes the field activities, data analysis and interpretation necessary to determine
the relative amounts of surface and groundwater flow in Cement Creek. It concludes that the
contribution from groundwater flow to conjunctive flow is negligible, and no further
groundwater measurements are necessary.
2.0 APPROACH
The following activities were conducted in order to characterize conjunctive flow:
P. Drilling of boreholes to obtain geologic information near the creek.
P. Installation of piezometers.
IN. Completion of slug tests to determine in-situ hydraulic conductivity.
IN. Laboratory testing of soil samples from boreholes to determine hydraulic
conductivity.
► Analysis and interpretation of slug test data to determine hydraulic conductivity.
► Calculation of 'worst case' groundwater flow rates.
► Determination of the relative groundwater contribution to conjunctive flow.
Golder Associates
