Box 500
Carbondale, Colorado
81423
' RE: Coal Basin Salvage Operations
Dear Mr. LaGiglia:
The Division has awarded a contract to accomplish reclamation of
the Warehouse area of the Coal Basin Mine in 1997. This project
will include reclamation of the Overland Conveyor, Stockpiles B and
M, the Glory Hole Pad and the Warehouse location. This project
began August 3, 1997. For the most part, the scrap metal and other
miscellaneous debris which is to be removed under the terms of
Resources contract with Machinery and Equipment Company has been
removed.
As we discussed on site in December, 1996, a large volume of
metallic debris, tires and other miscellaneous materials remains to
be removed from the Wash Plant and Main Office areas. Little
progress has been made by Machinery and Equipment at this area in
1997.
To reiterate our conversations of last December, the Division will
not be able to proceed with reclamation of these areas until the
salvage operations are completed. All metallic materials,
including those intermixed with the concrete debris at the farmer
location of the Wash Plant, tires and all of the miscellaneous
materials scattered throughout the area must be removed before
reclamation may proceed. Our reclamation schedule calls for
reclamation of this area to begin in the late spring or early
summer of 1998.
We urge you in your capacity as Trustee to encourage Machinery and
Equipment to initiate serious efforts to complete the salvage
operations during the current construction season so that
