COAL BASIN COMMITTEE <br />OF THE <br />WHITE RIVER NATIONAL FOREST ASSOCIATION <br />June, 1997 <br />The Coal Basin Committee (CSC) appointed by the <br />President of the White River National Forest Association ( WRNFA) <br />with the concurrence of the Board of Directors, or Executive <br />Committee, has the following objectives: <br />To study and make recommendations to the United States <br />Forest Service (USFS) as to post- mining uses of Coal Basin <br />including: <br />1. Use of existing facilities, primarily the <br />lamphouse and roads and trails in•Coal Basin previously used or <br />associated with the coal mining operation, subject to policies, <br />operations and use limitations of USFS. <br />2. To make recommendations as to educational exhibits <br />and programs designed to preserve historic values, educate as to <br />the ecology, geology, wildlife and other features of Coal Basin. <br />3. To make recommendations as to public access using <br />roads and trails, with particular reference to limitations on <br />motorized transportation. <br />4. To make recommendations concerning funding <br />arrangements to pay for lamphouse utilities and maintenance; road <br />and trail maintenance, overhead and other costs, subject to <br />501 -C -3 limitations. <br />5. To make recommendations as to possible cooperative <br />agreements, interpretative agreements, and arrangements as <br />between the Historic Preservation Committee at Redstone, or other <br />historic group, the WRNFA and the USFS. <br />
