will be made only for the unit price shown under Item 7 of the Bid Schedule.
TASK 8 TREE PLANTING
Containerized trees will be planted on the slopes of the Old Refuse Pile, within the Project
Area. CONTRACTOR will provide trees, polyacrylamide, and necessary tools, equipment
and personnel to accomplish planting specifications.
Willow cuttings will be placed at the base of the slope of the Old Refuse Pile.
CONTRACTOR will provide rooted willow cuttings, polyacrylamide, and necessary tools,
equipment and personnel to accomplish planting specifications.
Tree Planting
The tree planting portion of the project will involve establishment of seedling trees on the Old
Refuse Pile slopes upon completion of all other tasks. The goal of this Task is to plant 200
trees per acre within the Project Area.
Containerized seedlings, usually from eight inches to fourteen inches (8" to 14 ") of growth
above the roots, are to be planted when dormant, ie: no earlier than late September. Species to
be utilized in equal numbers are Engleman spruce (Picea englemanii), Colorado blue spruce
(Picea pungens) and Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii). PROJECT MANAGER may
reject seedlings whose root balls appear to be desiccated, molded or damaged, or trees that
appear to be unhealthy or dead.
Trees will be planted in a random pattern by using a 'hoe dad' or similar tool to excavate an
approximately twelve inch (12 ") deep hole in the soil. A seedling previously soaked in water
containing polyacrylamide will be placed roots first into the hole. Soil will be packed around
the roots of the seedlings. A small water containment berm, eighteen inches in circumference
and six inches in height, will be constructed around each seedling.
Shrub Planting
Willow plantings will occur along the whole length of the base of the Old Refuse Pile within
the Project Area. Cuttings may be obtained locally from Forest Service property. Individual
willow cuttings will be no less than twelve inches (12 ") in length. Cuttings will be soaked in
water containing polyacrylamide for at least twenty four (24) hours prior to planting. When
planting, cuttings will be stripped of stems, with each end of the cutting cut at a forty five
degree (45 angle. Cuttings will be placed into the ground in clumps of six (6). Clumps of
cuttings will be placed no more than six feet (6') distant from the next clump.
Measurement and Payment
Areas where trees and trees and shrubs are planted will be sampled to determine whether the
specified planting densities have been met. Areas where the specified planting densities have
been met will be measured to the nearest 0.1 acre and paid at the unit price bid on the Bid
Schedule Item 8. The price bid shall include all costs for labor, materials, equipment and all
other items necessary for tree and shrub planting as described in these specifications.
21
