South Basin Road Reclamation Project: This Project, which is estimated to cost $197,582,
would be funded by the bond. This Project would complete reclamation of the remaining roads
within Coal Basin. Due to the logistics and timing of completing this and the steep slopes
Projects, road reclamation must lag behind the steep slope revegetation by one season. This
means that, if the litigation proceeds to an August 1999 hearing, and as a result the steep slopes
revegetation project is delayed until 2000, the road reclamation would not be accomplished until
2001.
Pond Removal Project: This Project will be completed using bond money. The estimated cost
is $78,128. Assuming Water Quality Control Division approves the removal of the ponds, it
would be possible to accomplish this Project as apart of the road reclamation job. If removal of
the ponds is not received, then the ponds would be removed at a later date.
Spring Maintenance: Cost Projected at less than 10,000, and will be funded by bond money.
This is a bid for on-call machine time in the event a problem arises at the site during snow melt
runoff.
2001 and Beyond
Mine Site Maintenance: Cost Projected at $105,000. This will allow for periodic maintenance
of the site over the course of a five to ten year period, if need be. Issues to be addressed include
reseeding in the event of failure or insufficient establishment, rill and gully repair and minor land
form modification, stream channel repair and erosion control as needed.
cc: Jim McArdle
