8. Disturbance of Spoil Placed on the Outslope
The pre- law spoil outs lopes at the portal areas (see enclosed mine
maps ) are extremely steep and are not accessible to machinery or-
workers . Gullies do exist in some slope areas and natural
revegetation has been sparse .
During mine operation , Mid-Continent has not disturbed these spoil
slopes . Berms and sediment ponds on the bench areas kept runoff
away from the slopes . When the upper portion of the spoil slopes
are excavated to obtain material for backfilling , it is possible
that some material will roll over the edge . This is unavoidable and
will not result in any damage to the environment .
Once the cut and fill work is completed for each bench area, Mid-
Continent will attempt to seed and mulch as much of the spoil slope
as possible from the top of the bench . A high power blower or
hydromulcher will likely be used .
•
