Chapter V
Two additional sediment ponds will be constructed, in addition to
the three in place, to provide additional storage volume for
handling the sediment load from mine discharges. TR-5 of October
16, 1986 approved construction of the ponds. See App. II-B-3 for
supporting calculations.
Reclamation of the large tunnel fill area on the south side of the
Dutch Creek drainage will commence after final completion of the
tunnel project, when there is no furthe rmaterial to be placed on
the site. As ntoed, further work on the tunnel must still be done
and involves driving lateral extensions to workings accessed now by
#3 , #4 and #5 Entries, and continuation of the tunnel to a break-
out point west of Huntsman Ridge. That work will generate
additional underground development waste, which will be placed in
this area.
Reclamation of this tunnel fill area will involve topsoil placement
and revegetation with the approved 8, 000' seed mixture.
The topsoil piles (there are two, one below the sediment ponds, and
one on the south side of Dutch Creek) have been seeded with the
temporary seed mix.
c. Haul Roads.
When the current width of the haul roads is no longer necessary for
operations, and when safety considerations allow, Mid-Continent
will begin an interim program aimed at reclamation of the haul
roads.
The interim reclamation plan is as follows:
- The inside ditch will be moved out approximately 10' from
the hillside into the road.
The culvert drainage system will remain functional.
Where the new inside ditch passes over a culvert, the
culvert will be uncovered with a backhoe and cut with a
torch.
17 Revised 2/92
