The principal equipment that will be used to
drive the rock tunnel will be:
Main ventilating fan, 4-foot diameter
Auxiliary ventilating fan, underground
Load-haul dump unit, diesel-powered
Eimco - Secoma Bolter
Eimco - Secoma Roof Bolter
Eimco 980-T27 Diesel Trucks
Twin Boom Joy Jumbo Drills
High explosives will be used to break the
rock at the face underground. All surface blasting associated
with the project has been completed. Crosscuts (connections
between the parallel bores) for ventilation and for haulage will
be driven at intervals of not more than 500 feet.
A permanent mine office/lamp house/change
room will be constructed after the completion of the underground
drivage and construction. Coal transported to the surface through
the rock tunnel will be transferred to the new overland belt
system and conveyed directly to the preparation plant. The
overland conveyor project will upgrade the raw-coal storage.
The existing mine portals and haul roads will
be generally retained, but the level of activity will be greatly
reduced. The various mine portals at all mines are critical to
the mine ventilation system, and some as escapeways. From time
to time they will require some maintenance as do the main mine
slopes, which are also critical to the main ventilating system.
The present mine hoists and main line belts will be retained on a
33
