Chapter II
c. Non-Coal Refuse Disposal.
Pion-coal waste will be handled and disposed in accordance with
CMLRB regulations, section 4 . 11.4 - Disposal of Non-coal Waste.
(1) Solid Non-coal Waste Disposal.
Solid non-coal waste will be disposed in the approved solid waste
disposal sites, which are situated at the toe of the rock tunnel
fill, and at the No. 1 mine portal area.
Waste material in the disposal areas will be regularly covered over
with non-combustible material, and compacted. Coverage and
compaction will be done at least annually, and will take place when
ground conditions are dry.
Generally, the schedule for coverage and compaction will be after
snowmelt, and again before snowfall. This schedule may vary
according to ground conditions, so that coverage and compaction is
not done when the ground is wet or snowcovered and frozen.
During the summer season of 1992, some of the soil material removed
during road maintenance, including materials from ditches, material
from b.a.t. ponds, material excavated during replacement of
culverts or construction of rolling dips will be placed on the No.
1 Mine refuse disposal area. The refuse disposal area was covered
with 2 feet of non-combustible material during 1987 , then
compacted. Some additional soil material was added during 1991,
and compacted. In the fall of 1992, this refuse disposal area will
be seeded and mulched.
During 1991, the operator began a general clean-up program, which
included removal of scrap metal, including non-essential metal
structures. The operator will continue with removal of scrap metal
and general clean-up. Work at the portal areas, including
demolition or repair of structures damaged by the elements, will be
carried out according to the following schedule:
- No. 5 Mine = 1993 .
- No. 4 Mine = 1994.
- No. 3 Mine = 1995.
( 2) Liquid Waste Disposal.
Wastes such as grease, lubricants and oils used in the shops will
be stored temporarily at the truck shop which is near the
preparation plant area. Periodically, they will be removed from
the permit area and delivered to an outside contractor for refining
and subsequent use.
44 Revised 12/91
TR-24
