OF'Cl
NQ e47
0, DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
David H Getches,Executive Director
I 67ro-
8 * MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
,* DAVID C. SHELTON, Director
Richard D Lamm
Governor h
n
DATE: January 15, 1986
TO: Candace Thompson ;` (\
FROM: Jim Pendleton `-L"_ 4
RE: COAL BASIN NE'S MIT REVISION APPLICATION - ADJUSTMENT OF PERMIT
BOUNDARY ( - 7)
Pursuant to request, I have completed a review of the permit revision
application submitted by Mid-Continent Resources, Inc. for adjustment of the
boundaries of their Coal Basin Mine permit area.
In light of the U. S. Forest Services' concurrence with the extension of their
permit boundary beyond the lease boundary onto Forest Service lands, I have no
geotechnical aversion to the boundary adjustment.
The map entitled "Middle Seam Sequence of Operations" depicts an area of
"hydraulic mining" scheduled for extraction between 1988 and 1993. Without an
appropriate demonstration of the potential hydrological and geotechnical
consequences of hydraulic mining we cannot approve this mine plan
modification. I suggest that you stipulate that hydraulic mining is not
approved.
With the imposition of a stipulation disallowing hydraulic mining, the
geotechnical aspects of the proposed revision application are acceptable.
cc: Mike Long
srs
6564F
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
