The Town requests that Oxbow and their contractors adhere to the <br />firefighting training, mandatory spark arrestor requirements, and smoking requirements as <br />identified on pages 82 and 83 of the EA. Additionally the crews and vendors should be provided <br />with emergency contact numbers for local and regional fire dispatchers. <br />RECEIVW <br />JUN 15 2012 <br />Division of Keclamation, <br />Mining and Safety <br />MARLENE SEARLE <br />Town Clerk <br />The Town of Hotchkiss is providing its comments on the Environmental Assessment for <br />Oxbow Mining's proposed Oak Mesa Federal Coal Exploration Drilling Program. The Town <br />fully supports the Proposed Action to proceed with the 43 hole Exploration program. It is <br />understood that the Town lies 7 miles south of the proposed exploration area and will likely see <br />the greatest impact from the exploration and potential coal development. The Town's comments <br />also incorporate those items noted in the EA Scoping Letter dated Oct. 7, 2011 (attached). <br />As noted in our October letter, the Town requests notification of oversized equipment <br />that may be transported through Town affecting events such as the Sheepdog Trials, Delta <br />County Fair, parades, or other events. This <br />Exploration Plan details the use of berms, straw bales, silt fences, gravel surfacing, etc. for <br />control of surface water runoff; soil erosion, and dust. All possible measures should be employed <br />and maintained to protect the culinary and irrigation water for the community. <br />
