In areas of such steep slopes and poor soil materials , I know of no <br /> reasonable or practical way to truly control erosion . I know that <br /> many of the past attempts to remediate culvert outlets by <br /> downspouts or rip-rap simply do not last on 45 degree slopes , and <br /> considerable sums of money have been spent on these measures . As <br /> stated in item #1 above , I do not feel that the downstream waters <br /> are being significantly impacted by erosion from these ares . <br /> 4) Before any future erosion control measures are undertaken , they <br /> should be planned carefully , based on the poor success of many past <br /> measures . <br /> 5) Final reclamation of the roads will allow certain benefits <br /> unattainable before . Where the downslopes are stable , it may be <br /> possible to restore the original drainage pattern of sheet flow , <br /> thus lessening the flow at culvert outlet .
