TASK 2 NATIVE SEED COUECTION
The purpose of this task is to obtain seed indigenous to areas of the mine site which
are similar in nature to the outslopes subject to this project. Seed from two species
shall be collected and cleaned for the purpose of distributing them on the Mine 4
outslopes.
Seed shall be collected from thle forb Senec:io (Sp.?) and from the g,ass
Calamagrostis (Sp.?). Examples of each plant shall be provided in the field by the
PROJECT MANAGER. PROJECT MANAGER shall help CONTRACTOR locate areas
suitable for collection of seed mi nearby areas. Access to some, if not all, collection
sites may be limited to foot, all terrain vehicle (ATV) or horse. Vehicular traffic, such
as trucks and heavy equipment, across previously reclaimed areas is prohibited.
Seed shall be collected at maturation of each species. Seed shall be cleaned using
commonly accepted practices.' At a minimum, sufficient seed shall b: collected so
that five pounds (5#) of seed of each species is available for distribution on each acre
of outslope identified for revegetation during execution of this project. It is estimated
that seventy five pounds (75') of seed of each species will be collected to fulfill this
requirement.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this task will be reflected in
a lump sum bid under Item 2 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover all
costs for collection of seed, cleaning of seed and transportation fran-i the collection
site to the Mine 4 project area. Payment shall be as this task is completed and
approved by the PROJECT MAf VAGER.
TASK 3 OUTSLOPE PREPARATION
This Task will be completed on',the steep slopes not contemplated for protection by
the bonded fiber matrix to be applied in Task 5, Outslope Protection. In order to
enhance the potential of revegetation success, depressions and benches are to be
created on approximately six (6) acres of outslopes. These depressions and benches
are to serve two purposes; ameliorate the overall slope angle, and to provide a place
for seed to become established. The depressions and benches will be mechanically
created by an imprinter or similar piece of equipment.
The imprinter or similar equipment shall create depressions or benches on the
outslopes which measure no more than eighteen inches (18") in width (side to side)
8
