The rip rap channel segment will be constructed to the following specifications:
Segment two of the Stockpile B channel will be three hundred fifty feet in length. Segment two will be
lined with durable rock rip rap. The rip rap will be placed in the excavated channel so that the rip rap
extends from channel crest to channel crest throughout this length of Segment two, including the low
water crossing of Road A.
Construction shall proceed as follows:
The channel segment shall be excavated to construct a channel which is trapezoidal in shape with a
minimum bottom width of two feet (2') and a minimum depth of two feet (2'), as measured from the base
of the channel to the crest of the channel, after placement of rip rap is completed. Side slopes shall not
exceed 2.5H:IV. Note that the channel dimensions vary at the location of the low water crossing of Road
A, as discussed below. After excavation, the channel base and side slopes shall be scarified. Fertilizer
shall be applied to the channel at a rate of two tons per acre commercial fertilizer as specified in Task
10, Revegetation, and then broadcast seeded with the Diversion Mixture at a rate of sixty pounds (60#)
per acre. The seed will be provided by the PROJECT MANAGER. Rip Rap shall be placed within the
channel from channel crest to channel crest. Rip rap shall consist of angular durable rock only,
averaging four to six inches (4" to 6"), as measured across the long axis of any single rock. Unaltered
shale, friable sandstone and rounded rock are not acceptable materials. The rip rap shall be placed to
an average depth of eight inches (8"). In no instance shall there be less than six inches (6") of rip rap
overlying the channel base or sides.
The design specifications for the low water crossing of Road A are unchanged from those described in
Task 8, Surface Drainage: Channel Construction.
Measurement and Payment
The channel segment will be measured to the nearest linear foot. Payment for this task will be paid for
at prices established in Additive Alternate on the Invitation and Bid sheet per linear foot installed. Such
payment shall be considered full compensation for all labor, materials, equipment and all other items
necessary and incidental to the furnishing of all materials and construction of the channel segment and
low water crossing as directed and described in the specifications. Payment will be as this task is
completed and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER. Payment for this task will be made only for the
unit price shown under Additive Alternate of the Bid Schedule. Construction of the Additive Alternate
channel segment is NOT guaranteed
C\wp51\midc\bids\wrseproj
19
