channel will traverse most of the stockpile floor from the west to the sediment pond located near the
south eastern margin of the facility. The channel will be trapezoidal in shape. Above the confluence
with the northern channel, the side slopes shall not exceed 2.5H:IV; the bottom width shall not be less
than one foot (1') wide; total depth shall not be less than eighteen inches (18") as measured from the
base to the crest of the channel. Below the confluence with the northern channel, the one hundred feet
(1001) long central channel shall be enlarged so that side slopes will not exceed 2.5H:IV; the bottom
width will not be less than two feet (2'), with a minimum two feet (2') depth as measured from the base to
the crest of the channel.
The northern channel will be approximately 200 feet in length, and will traverse a small portion of the
area from the north east to the central channel near the sediment pond. This channel will be triangular
in shape. Side slopes will not exceed 2.5H:IV; depth as measured from the base of the ditch to the crest
will not be less than eighteen inches (18")
Warehouse Vicinity Channel
The five hundred fifty feet (550') long Warehouse Vicinity Channel shall be trapezoidal in shape, having
side slopes which do not exceed 2.5H:IV; the bottom width will not be less than two feet (2), with a
minimum two feet (2') depth as measured from the base to the crest of the channel on its southern side.
During construction of the Warehouse Vicinity Channel, a low water crossing (Figure 7, Low Water
Crossing) measuring ten feet (10') in length (parallel to the channel axis) will be constructed at the point
where the channel crosses the old access road. The exact location will be marked in the field by the
PROJECT MANAGER prior to construction. The base of the channel will be widened to five feet (5'), and
the side slopes will be constructed so that they are no steeper than 5H:1V. The channel depth will be 2.5
feet prior to placing rip rap. Rip rap averaging four to six inches (4" to 6"), as measured across the long
axis of any single rock, will be placed within the channel at this location. The rip rap will extend from
side to side of the channel (side slopes and base) for the ten feet (10') width of the low water crossing.
Rip rap shall consist of angular durable rock only. Unaltered shale, friable sandstone and rounded rock
are not acceptable materials.
Measurement and Payment
Drainages will be measured to the nearest linear foot. Payment for this task will be paid for at prices
established in Task 8 on the Invitation and Bid sheet per linear foot installed. Such payment shall be
considered full compensation for all labor, materials, equipment and all other items necessary and
incidental to the furnishing of all materials and construction of the channels and low water crossings as
directed and described in the specifications. Payment will be as this task is completed and approved by
the PROJECT MANAGER. Payment for this task will be made only for the unit price shown under Task 8
of the Bid Schedule.
Task 9 Equipment Rental
Additional areas in and adjacent to the project area may require slope reduction, excavation or erosion
control work. A CAT D-7H or equivalent 215 FHP machine with operator, a CAT 416B Backhoe loader or
equivalent 74 fhp machine with operator, and a five (5) cubic yard on/off highway dump truck with
operator shall be furnished for additional work as needed.
The hours outlined in Task 9 of the Bid Schedule are NOT guaranteed. All work will be accomplished
according to Specification 19.0, Equipment Rental, attached.
16
