Measurement and Payment
Payment for removal and placement of the topsoil stockpile will be on a per yard basis, at the unit price
bid in item 5 of the Bid Schedule. The per yard cost established in item 5 of the Bid Schedule will cover
all costs for excavation, transportation and placement of the topsoil material. Payment shall be as this
task is completed and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER.
Task 6 Contour Furrow Construction
The goal of this task is to create contour furrows at various locations throughout the Project Area for the
purpose of slowing surface water runoff and to encourage sheet flow of runoff as it flows through the
furrows. This is useful in order to minimize sediment transport from the project area until vegetation
becomes established. The furrows will be constructed after backfilling, grading and ripping operations
described in Task 4, Earth Work, are completed. The locations of the furrows will be staked in the field
by the PROJECT MANAGER prior to construction.
The furrows will be constructed to the following specifications, unless otherwise directed by the
PROJECT MANAGER:
The furrows will be triangular in shape. Each furrow will be a minimum of eighteen inches (18") deep as
measured from the base of the furrow to its crest. Side slopes will be no steeper than 2H:1V. See Figure
4, Generalized Cross Section of Contour Furrows. Contour furrows must be constructed on contour so
that the base of the furrow has a slope of 0%. CONTRACTOR shall ensure that the slope requirement is
met during construction of each furrow.
It is anticipated that furrows will be constructed above and on the floor remnant of Stockpile B, on the
floor remnant of Stockpile M, and at the western margin of the Warehouse Vicinity.
The estimated number of furrows and the estimated aggregate length of the furrows by location are
tabulated below. Note that the actual length and number of contour furrows constructed may vary from
this estimate.
LOCATION NO. OF FURROWS TOTAL LENGTH (FT.)
Stockpile B 3 450
Stockpile M 4 400
Warehouse Area 3 450
13
