I G',
Plant Species Collection and Identification
Plant species will be collected throughout the growing season. Species
will be identified by field ecologists conducting the study and con—
firmed by Dr. William A. Weber, Curator of the Herbarium, University
of .Colorado. Taxonomic nomenclature follows Weber and Johnston (1979) .
Weber (1976) , Nickerson et al . (1976) , and Beetle (1970) will be consulted
in an attempt to apply the most widely utilized common names. Noxious
weed designations will follow Thornton et al . (1974) . Statements of
origin or provenance will follow Weber and Johnston (1979) and other
sources. Voucher specimens will be preserved in a reference collection.
Equitability indices or Ispecies diversity will be determined for each
community using the for ula
- ZPi log Pi
f
where Pi equals the cover value or each species encountered in a
community divided by the total vegetation cover in a community. (See
Whittaker 1975. )
Time of Sampling
Vegetation cover, production, and density data will be collected in June
and July 1981.
—4—
