This
letter presents the results of a visual subsidence monitoring inspection of
the area of Huntsman Ridge bove the historic and active mining at Coal
Basin. The inspection was erformed on October 9, 1991 by Lew Ron Thompson,
Environmental Coordinator a d Bruce A. Collins , PhD. , Assistant to the
President of Mid-Continent esources . Dr. Collins prepared the report letter.
The descriptions of ground cracking and movement seem thorough. The
conclusions forwarded by Dr. Collins , that observed movement is more likely
the result of rejuvenated slope movement rather than subsidence, are
consistent with the observeJ evidence and prior interpretations at the site.
I recommend acceptance of tie letter report with one condition. We should
require Dr. Collins to provide an updated version of the map contained in his
report of August 30, 1990, locating the additional ground cracking reported in
his letter of October 15, 1 91 . With the receipt of this updated map, I
believe that Mid-Continent Zesources will have fulfilled its 1991 annual
subsidence reporting obliga ion for the Coal Basin Mines .
cc: Larry Routten
JAP/ern
9193F
