Individual willow cuttings will be no less than twenty four inches (24°) in length. Cuttings will be <br /> soaked in water containing polyacrylamide for at least twenty four (24) hours prior to planting. <br /> When planting, cuttings will be stripped of stems arI tied together in clumps of ten (10). <br /> Cuttings will be placed horizontally into a trench ex ated sufficiently wide and long to <br /> accommodate the willow cutting clump. The depth ui the excavation shall be sufficiently deep so <br /> that after the willow clump is placed in the excavation, six inches (6") of soil may be placed on <br /> top of the clump without the soil exceeding the height of the adjacent ground surface. Clumps of <br /> cuttings will be placed no more than six feet (6) distant from the next clump. <br /> Measurement and Payment <br /> Areas where trees and trees and shrubs are planted will be sampled to determine whether the <br /> specified planting densities have been met. Areas where the specified planting densities have <br /> been met will be measured to the nearest 0.1 acre and paid at the unit price bid on the Bid <br /> Schedule Item 8. The price bid shall include all costs for labor, materials, equipment and all <br /> other items necessary for tree and shrub planting as described in these specifications. <br /> PROJECT OBSERVATION <br /> The PROJECT MANAGER will be at the project site periodically to monitor construction <br /> activities and ensure that each work item is completed and constructed to design specifications. <br /> The PROJECT MANAGER will be available during regular business hours (8:00 A.M. to 5:00 <br /> P.M.) on weekdays. Inspections will not be scheduled on weekend days or holidays without prior <br /> approval of the PROJECT MANAGER. It is the CONTRACTOR'S responsibility to schedule <br /> inspections with the Project Manager so as not to delay the work. The following items must be <br /> observed and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER before proceeding with additional work: <br /> 1. Staking of project area at Old Refuse Pile <br /> 2. Completion of topsoil salvage operations at Old Refuse Pile <br /> 3. Completion of topsoil salvage and vegetation clearing operations at fill areas, Old <br /> Refuse Pile <br /> 4. Completion of topsoil salvage and vegetation clearing operations at underdrain <br /> locations, Old Refuse Pile <br /> 5. Upon completion of geotextile placement in underdrain trenches. <br /> 6. Upon completion of rock placement in underdrain trenches. <br /> 7. During fill compaction of first lift of refuse disposal at both Old Refuse Pile, and <br /> disposal sites. <br /> 8. Upon completion of 1/4 of topsoil placement, Old Refuse Pile. <br /> 9. Immediately prior to initiating revegetation operations. <br /> 10. Upon completion of 1/4 of tree planting operations. <br /> 11. Upon completion of 1/4 of shrub planting operations. <br /> 16 <br />
