Measurement and Payment
Underdrains will be measured to the nearest linear foot. Payment for this task will be paid for at
prices established in Item 7 of the Bid Schedule per linear foot installed. Installation of
Underdrains IS NOT guaranteed. Such payment shall be considered full compensation for all
labor, materials, equipment and all other items necessary and incidental to the furnishing and
placement of the Under Drains as directed and described in the specifications. Payment will be
as this task is completed and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER. Payment for this task will
be made only for the unit price shown under Item 7 of the Bid Schedule.
TASK 8 TREE AND SHRUB PLANTING
Containerized trees will be planted on the slopes of the Old Refuse Pile, within the Project Area.
CONTRACTOR will provide trees, polyacrylamide, and necessary tools, equipment and
personnel to accomplish planting specifications. Approximately fifteen (15) acres of the Old
Refuse Pile will be subject to this Task.
Shrubs, consisting of willow cuttings, will be placed at the base of the slope of the Old Refuse
Pile. The CONTRACTOR will provide willow cuttings, polyacrylamide, and necessary tools,
equipment and personnel to accomplish planting specifications.
Tree Planting
The tree planting portion of the project will involve establishment of seedling trees on the Old
Refuse Pile slopes upon completion of all other tasks. The goal of this Task is to plant 200 trees
per acre within the Project Area.
Containerized seedlings, usually having from eight inches to fourteen inches (8"to 14") of growth
above the roots, are to be planted when dormant, IE: no earlier than late September. Species to
be utilized in equal numbers are Engleman spruce (Picea englemanii), Colorado blue spruce
(Picea pungens) and Douglas fir(Pseudotsuga menziesii). The PROJECT MANAGER may
reject seedlings whose root balls appear to be desiccated, molded or damaged, or trees that
appear to be unhealthy or dead.
Trees will be planted in a random pattern by using a 'hoe dad' or similar tool to excavate an
approximately twelve inch (12") deep hole in the soil. A small amount of hydrated
polyacrylamide will be introduced into the hole. A seedling will then be placed roots first into the
hole. Soil will be packed around the roots of the seedlings so that the root balls are completely
buried, and in a manner which eliminates subsurface air pockets from forming. A small water
containment berm, eighteen inches (18") in circumference and five inches (5") in height, will be
constructed around each seedling.
Shrub Planting
Willow plantings will occur along the length of the base of the Old Refuse Pile within the Project
Area immediately adjacent to, and uphill from, the drainage ditch described in Task 2, Earth
Work. Cuttings may be obtained locally from property managed by the U. S. Forest Service. A
written statement of approval for the cutting and removal of willow cuttings from Forest Service
managed lands must be provided to the PROJECT MANAGER prior to initiating this task.
15
