Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this task will be reflected in a lump
sum bid under Item 1 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover all costs for
Mobilization and Demobilization. Payment shall be made as described in specification 1.0,
Mobilization/Demobilization, attached.
TASK 2 EARTH WORK
The CONTRACTOR, in conjunction with the PROJECT MANAGER ,will stake the boundaries of
the area of the Old Refuse Pile to be affected by this project. This will occur prior to initiating any
work within the Project Area.
The earth work portion of this project consists of reducing the north slope of the Old Refuse Pile
to the design specifications. Cross Sections AR through HR, and Map 5, Reclaimed
Topography, depict the specified post construction topography of the Old Refuse Pile Project
Area. Material excavated from the Pile will be transported to the designated disposal site. Map
4, Old Refuse Pile, depicts the current topography of the pile, locations of Cross Sections A
through H and outlines the portion of the facility which is subject to this Project. Map 3, Project
Area, depicts the location where the excavated materials will be placed, and the location of the
topsoil stockpile from which the topsoil will be derived.
In its present condition, the Old Refuse Pile slopes subject to this Project vary in gradient from
slightly steeper than 1.51-1:1 V to just less than 2H:1 V, with the majority of the slope averaging
about 1.75H:1 V. Cross Sections A through H depict the current topography. Upon completion
of the project, the gradient of the north slope of the Old Refuse Pile will average 2.5H:1 V. The
gradient at any one location may vary between 2.4H:1 V and 3.0HA V, as depicted on Cross
Sections AR through HR. A variance in slope gradient which results in any one cross sectional
slope being steeper than 2AH:1 V is not permitted.
Special Requirements
(1) Access to the upper portions of the Old Refuse Pile (beyond the Project Area) must be
maintained during construction. This shall be accomplished by construction of an access
immediately south of the existing road. See (3), below.
(2) At the base of the Old Refuse Pile, immediately adjacent to the northern perimeter of the
Project Area, is a drainage ditch. This ditch allows drainage from a portion of the mine site to
report to a series of treatment ponds east of the Project Area. It is necessary to ensure that this
ditch remains functional throughout the duration of the Project. It is the responsibility of the
CONTRACTOR to ensure that the drainage ditch, throughout the Project Area remains
functional during performance of this Contract. The CONTRACTOR will inspect the drainage
ditch at least twice daily(noon and at the end of the work day) to ensure that the ditch remains
free of obstructions. Any obstructions noted shall be immediately removed to the uphill side of
the ditch. Additionally, the CONTRACTOR will construct a twenty- inch (20") tall berm between
the ditch and the base of the Old Refuse Pile for the length of the Project Area prior to initiating
any excavation operations on the Old Refuse Pile. The purpose of the berm is to contain dirt
7
