The mine is located four miles west of Redstone, and is accessed by paved road.
Roads on the mine site are improved dirt.
The purpose of this project is to accomplish spot control of noxious weeds within certain portions
of the Coal Basin Mine as a continuation of a long-term weed control strategy. Funding for this
project is mainly derived from grant monies provided by the Colorado Department of Agriculture,
and administered by the Division of Minerals and Geology. The herbicides to be applied are
provided by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service as partners in the grant
application.
The Project is scheduled to begin on July 6, 1999. It is anticipated that the project will be
accomplished in no more than three (3) consecutive working days.
The Project area is approximately twenty (20) acres in size, but is not contiguous in nature. The
attached map shows the approximate locations of noxious weed infestations. Each of the areas
was treated in 1998. However, individual plants within each area are still growing. The goal of
this project is to treat all remaining noxious weeds located within the infested areas. Although
most of the infested areas are near or adjacent to roads, access to the infested areas may be
difficult due to the steepness of the slopes and due to past reclamation activities.
Road E, the Overland Conveyor Corridor, part of the Coal Stockpiles Vicinity and a portion of the
area infested by noxious weeds in the vicinity of the Sutey Refuse Disposal Facility have been
reclaimed. Access to these areas will be need to be accomplished by all terrain vehicle,
horseback or foot. Access by vehicles other than all terrain vehicle will not be permitted at any
area which has been reclaimed.
Other CONTRACTORS may be working in and near the Project Area during performance of this
Project. CONTRACTOR is cautioned to be aware of heavy equipment, and is advised to
coordinate activities with others to the extent that becomes necessary. PROJECT MANAGER
will assist in this regard.
2
